CityFibre announced the appointment of engineering, construction and project management company Bechtel to support the ‘major acceleration’ of its fibre rollout. The British pure fibre provider said the development comes as it prepares to award up to GBP1.5 billion (USD1.9 billion) in construction contracts in the coming months and commences mobilisation across an additional 29 towns and cities. Under the plan, CityFibre will begin to onboard Bechtel’s teams immediately, integrating them within its existing organisational structure.
CityFibre CEO, Greg Mesch: ‘Bechtel’s expertise in the delivery of national infrastructure projects will complement our existing teams and ensure we can rapidly increase the number of parallel build projects, while still delivering the high quality of network demanded by our customers.’
CityFibre confirmed that construction contract awards under its ‘Accelerated Tenders Award Programme’ are expected in the coming weeks. Having claimed that the new projects will create ‘thousands’ of jobs across its construction partners, it has said that by the end of 2021 it expects network construction to be underway in more than 100 towns and cities across the UK.
