UK, 18 Feb, 2021. With the Brexit deal, the UK’s mobile operators have not excluded the re-introduction of mobile roaming charges for using your mobile phone within the region. Given this, Happy Telecom recommends that you keep abreast of the latest developments. It is vital that your business remains informed with regards to the latest roaming charges in order to effectively train staff and in turn advise your customers before they travel.
The United Kingdom’s trade deal with the European Union has come into force. It does not prevent the re-introduction of additional roaming charges in Europe. This is meant to encourage operators to have transparent and reasonable rates for roaming, meaning that mobile operators can implement roaming charges if they so choose. The UK and EU governments guidance says to check with your personal and business service providers to confirm your roaming charges as of 2021. UK operators and their counterparts in EU countries may have deals in place to prevent charges increasing at the start of 2021, there is no guarantee that they will be able to maintain this approach indefinitely.
The leading operators in the UK have said they did not plan to reintroduce roaming charges. Vodafone has released a statement saying that it had no plans to reintroduce roaming charges. O2 are committed to providing customers with great connectivity and value when they travel outside the UK and currently have no plans to change their roaming services available across Europe. EE said that their customers enjoy inclusive roaming in Europe and beyond and they don’t have any plans to change this. EE customers travelling in the EU will continue to enjoy inclusive roaming. Three said it already offers roaming at no extra cost for its customers in over 70 destinations including the US, Australia and New Zealand and will continue to do so regardless of Brexit.
